Why is the south "King of the South", and the east coast "God M.C."?

I see the South limits themselves on what they can really become. "King of the South". The East coast sees themselves as limitless..."God M.C." or "God of Hip Hop". Wouldn't you rather be the God rather than just being a king? I know I would.
